VIAGGIO IN BIRMANIA, TRA TESORI E CICATRICI

Uno zaino in spalla e tanta voglia di puntare i riflettori là dove regna il buio del dimenticatoio. Questo lo spirito con cui Gianrigo Marletta, da sempre residente nel quartiere di Monteverde dove ha conseguito gran parte dei suoi studi, intraprende i suoi viaggi nel terzo mondo alla ricerca della verità, a contatto con la povertà più estrema e con realtà che il mondo occidentale non può nemmeno arrivare ad immaginare. Dopo anni di continuo vagabondare Gianrigo ha deciso di fondare, insieme ad una ragazza americana e con l’aiuto di sostenitori sparsi in Italia e negli Stati Uniti, un’ associazione “I Vagabond Reporters”, che si prefissa lo scopo di denunciare attraverso filmati, foto, interviste ed articoli le situazioni di vita che la cronaca tralascia perché considerate scomode o pericolose. Altro obiettivo è quello di portare aiuti concreti là dove c’è bisogno di interventi e dove la fanno da padrone la miseria, la solitudine, la violenza e la sopraffazione.

“Sin da bambino sono stato abituato a viaggiare – racconta Gianrigo Marletta, fondatore dei Vagabond reporters – considerata la mia nazionalità italo – americana. Nel 2002 ho cominciato a lavorare come assistente di volo a lungo raggio ed ho visitato ripetutamente il continente asiatico. Da questa esperienza è nata la volontà di scoprire le ricchezze e le sofferenze di questi luoghi da esplorare non più come turista o come semplice lavoratore, ma come ricercatore di verità nascoste, portavoce di grida strozzate dal dolore o represse dal potere. Sono stato ispirato e motivato molto dalla lettura di testi di spiritualità indiana, che mi hanno portato a concentrare sempre  più il mio interesse verso il continente asiatico. Dal 2004 mi reco ininterrottamente in Asia e vi trascorro circa sei mesi all’anno. Sono stato in India, in Cambogia,in Thailandia, in Birmania, nello Sri Lanka, nel Laos ed in Giappone. In Birmania mi sono trattenuto per un mese. Ero lì il giorno che dovevano liberare la leader birmana Aung San Suu Kyi. Ho realizzato un documentario, scritto articoli, scattato foto e fatto interviste, scoprendo aspetti che non emergono con facilità, segreti rivelatimi quasi come fossero bisbigli di abitanti impauriti dalle milizie. Il governo militare, infatti, tiene a freno e controlla ogni aspetto della vita dei birmani e soprattutto maschera le realtà più cruente ai turisti affinché questi ultimi possano avere solo bei ricordi dei luoghi visitati. Il regime militare opprime il popolo con la violenza e contribuisce al decadimento della Birmania in quanto strozza la ricchezza del paese (data dalla presenza di gemme, gas, petrolio e legno teck) utilizzandola solo per il proprio tornaconto e lasciando il nulla al popolo. La maggior parte dei birmani, per vivere,  fa il lavoro di tassista, la guida, il cameriere nei grandi alberghi costruiti dalla milizia o il venditore. La popolazione non ha alcun tipo di diritto, infatti non può andare a scuola o all’ospedale e non può godere di nessun servizio in modo gratuito. Nelle città principali, Yangon e Mandalay, la gente vive in palazzi coloniali, ma nelle altre zone la stragrande maggioranza abita per strada e dorme per terra o  sul mezzo di trasporto che ha a disposizione. Dal 1991, da quando cioè la Birmania ha aperto le porte ai turisti, per costruire gli alberghi la milizia ha cacciato gli abitanti dalle loro case costringendoli ad imbiancare a proprie spese ed a risistemare gli appartamenti stessi. Altro aspetto sconvolgente è rappresentato dal fatto che qualora qualcuno venisse mutilato, ferito o addirittura morisse a causa della mine antiuomo predisposte dal governo, è costretto a ripagare la mina esplosa perché considerato attentatore ad un bene dello Stato. La popolazione, inoltre, purché fisicamente abile, deve prestare servizio gratuito per il governo, oltre al quotidiano lavoro personale per il sostentamento. Altro aspetto sconcertante è rappresentato dalle bambine birmane che vengono rapite o vendute e portate in Thailandia per iniziare il lavoro di “Sex Workers” o lavoratrici del sesso, nonostante la tenera età.”

Per tutte queste vittime, secondo Gianrigo Marletta, è possibile impegnarsi non solo in prima linea, ma anche solo informandosi e raccontando al prossimo che ci sono altre realtà lontane che non devono essere ignorate, ma incoraggiate, sostenute e, soprattutto, mai dimenticate.
