Recensione negativa del film “Il mercante di pietre”

Il film di Renzo Martinelli tratta un argomento scottante, “esplosivo”, angosciante e contribuisce ad alimentare la paura e le tensioni verso il mondo islamico più estremista. L’equazione proposta dal Professor Rondini, ossia  il fatto che sebbene  “tutti i musulmani non siano terroristi, ma che gran parte dei terroristi siano musulmani” implica una etichettatura del terrorismo al mondo arabo. Più che un film sull’integralismo islamico il mercante di pietre è un film che esaspera la pratica distruttiva degli attentati, filo conduttore di tutta la narrazione. Il protagonista, il professore di storia esperto di integralismo islamico, infatti  è vittima di un attentato a causa del quale perde entrambe le  gambe, costretto per questo a vivere sulla sedia a rotelle. Leda, sua moglie, è addirittura vittima di due attentati terroristici dai quali  riesce a farla franca solo una volta. Una coppia, quindi, che subisce tre attentati in poco tempo, il che fa presumere agguati continui e costanti verso la popolazione inerme da parte di cellule  di Al Quaeda. Di questi tempi proporre un film che fomenti angosce e terrore significa creare un muro di cemento con il mondo islamico.

Di storia d’amore proprio non si può parlare, semmai di infatuazione e magari di attrazione sessuale fatale tra il mercante di pietre e Leda che a quanto pare non ama nemmeno il marito, ma perde la testa per il primo che sussurra alle sue orecchie due leggende sulle pietre e qualche contenuto pseudo –  filosofico accompagnato da un regalo di elevato valore economico. Ridicolo poi il fatto che il Professor Rondini, con le sue fobie nei riguardi del mondo islamico, possa scegliere la Cappadocia (Turchia) come meta per una vacanza di tutto relax in compagnia della moglie appena scampata a un attentato terroristico. Assurdo, inoltre, che durante il soggiorno in terra straniera i due possano frequentare ambienti islamici, accettare inviti e passaggi in auto da perfetti sconosciuti, gli stessi che cambieranno la loro vita dall’altra parte del mondo.

Il mercante di pietre non è certo il genere di film che lascia allo spettatore il desiderio di discuterci sopra, se non l’amara conclusione che il regista possa aver voluto lanciare una provocazione o fomentare qualche paranoia in più. Pensare che un uomo che può vivere come noi, parlare come noi, arrivare ad odiarci, ci da la sensazione di avere un nemico in casa e questo aspetto ci rende più guardinghi, sfiduciati nel prossimo e soprattutto malfidati, islamofobici. Se l’intento di Martinelli è quello di suggerirci che siamo tutti dei bersagli del terrorismo non ci resta che ringraziarlo  per averci fornito questa ulteriore tensione che va ad aggiungersi ai problemi che dobbiamo affrontare nel nostro quotidiano. Se, invece, è una risposta alle minacce che provengono da una parte del mondo islamico contro l’occidente, sarebbe stato meglio appellarsi al famoso detto del silenzio quale migliore risposta di disprezzo verso la crudeltà umana, non contribuendo a spargere benzina sul fuoco ed aggiungere ad odio altro odio. Del resto qualcuno potrebbe ricordarci: “chi è realmente senza peccato per poter scagliare la prima pietra.

IL MERCANTE DI PIETRE O LA PIETRA DELLOSCANDALO?

Il mercante di Pietre non è un film sui musulmani, ma sugli integralisti islamici. Lontana quindi l’idea che il regista, Renzo Martinelli, abbia voluto far filtrare un messaggio razzista o intollerante ai danni di un popolo ed impensabile la considerazione che tematiche  del genere possano fomentare scontri ed odi tra  civiltà. Sarebbe sciocco, infatti, pensare che un film sulla mafia possa rappresentare una condanna nei riguardi del meridione, dove è più sviluppata, o ancor più verso la popolazione sicula. Il regista del mercante di pietre propone un film d’amore che si colora di cronaca, storia ed attualità, fotografando una parte della realtà in cui viviamo. Una finestra che si affaccia sul mondo non potrà mai darne una visione completa, a tutto campo, ma si limiterà ad inquadrare piccoli scorci che comunque sono solo parte di un vasto insieme.  Il messaggio chiave è presto riassunto. In nome delle “religioni”, così come ai tempi delle crociate del resto, si sono commessi e si continuano a commettere atti scellerati che si attribuiscono alla volontà delle divinità, facendo si che i vari credo prevalgano sul nostro stato di essere uomini, creature terrene che, al contrario, dovrebbero mostrare veramente un po’ di rispetto per ciò che venerano, non sentendosi quindi i padri eterni delle vite altrui. Partendo dal presupposto che ogni religione semina amore, fratellanza, rispetto, pietà verso il prossimo, è più che naturale che tutto il resto assume le sembianze di una forzatura, di una bruttura e se vogliamo di una  distorsione di ciò in cui si crede, di una interpretazione troppo personalistica e soggettiva di quelli che non dovrebbero essere altro che i valori universali. Il film di Martinelli racconta il mistero, lo stesso che è nascosto dietro la leggenda di ogni singola pietra, dietro la quale il mercante cela la sua identità. Un mistero troppo grande per poter essere compreso, reso umano, che porta l’individuo al totale annullamento di se stesso, della propria vita, dell’esistenza altrui ed ancor più del proprio amore per seguire la voce che si dice provenire da Dio. Il regista mette in scena una storia d’amore tra un integralista islamico convertito ed una donna cristiana; una relazione stroncata e sacrificata dal senso del dovere e dalla costrizione di adempiere ai voleri di una religione portata allo svilimento.  E’ “nell’impossibilità di” che va concepito il film, un gioco di privazioni, blocchi, per far comprendere quanto sia difficile vivere l’amore nella sua completezza e quanto sia più facile nascondersi dietro ossessioni, fobie, prese di posizioni “in nome di”, dietro tutto ciò che costruisce il nostro raziocinio e non il nostro cuore. Solo Leda trasmette un senso di libertà, solo lei sembra voler volare in alto perché alla ricerca della pienezza dei sentimenti, delle emozioni, della passione, lontana da ogni tipo di schema, di ostacolo ed elucubrazione della mente. Il professor Alceo Rondini ed il mercante di pietre, se ci si pensa bene, non sono poi tanto diversi. Entrambi condividono odio, rancori, timori, sfiducia nel prossimo. Questo fa si che tra i protagonisti non ci siano i buoni o i cattivi e soprattutto è escluso qualsiasi pensabile attacco al mondo islamico, considerato l’intreccio ed il contenuto  della narrazione. Il fatto che la moglie di un professore universitario particolarmente ostile nei riguardi dell’integralismo islamico finisce per innamorarsi proprio di un membro della cellula di Al Quaeda non solo è un paradosso, ma lancia un messaggio pieno di speranza e di apertura, comunicando allo spettatore che i sentimenti umani non hanno colore, religione, preconcetti o pregiudizi, ma vanno ben oltre. Anche la fine del film è molto significativa. La morte del mercante di pietre, successiva alla tragica morte di Leda vittima di un attentato terroristico organizzato proprio dal suo amato, dimostra che molto spesso si è solo schiavi di meccanismi dai quali si vorrebbe evadere, prigionieri di vere e proprie trappole della mente, quando poi c’è un cuore che batte in ognuno di noi, anche dentro chi si spinge oltre. Non esiste nessuna religione sulla faccia della terra che possa predicare il male, la morte, la distruzione degli uomini, i soli responsabili invece delle cattiverie ai danni dei loro simili.
